year-in-review: onnec highlights from 2022

It’s that time to reflect on 2022 and remember a few highlights of the year. Through strong connections with our global customers and partners, and with the commitment of our global design, project and service delivery teams, 2022 has provided some standout moments.

a new name

In July we successfully united Kedington, ExcelRedstone and LOAD AB services under our new brand Onnec. Bringing 30 years of heritage, experience, and a team of 800+ industry experts together, the company has become better positioned to help achieve our customers’ business ambitions, by focusing on delivering excellence in connected environments for them, across the world.

an expanding team

2022 has been one of our biggest years for net recruitment, with over 150 new starters joining the Onnec team across the world. And we’ve expanded our footprint with new offices in London, Sweden, Germany, and the US. 2023 will see us maintain this level of growth, as we continue to deliver the consistent level of service everywhere for our clients. A local partner on a global scale.

ongoing commitment to future talent

Onnec is committed to growing future talent and making our industry more accessible. This year Onnec Ireland was nominated for Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Award, and three apprentices nominated for the Apprentice of the Year. 2023 looks even better with our apprenticeship programme expanding to our other entities.

“Our apprenticeships scheme creates a fantastic opportunity for us as an employer and for learners alike from a diverse background to enter our industry. We are delighted to have been involved in the evolution of this apprenticeship to date, it is a game changer!” – Colm Lyons, Director at Onnec Ireland.

long standing connected partnerships

It’s been a year of growing relationships, new accreditations and training certifications attained with all our strategic partners. From Onnec winning the CommScope EMEA partner of the Year award, to our Smart Buildings solution Onnec iQ becoming an Accredited WiredScore solution, 2022 has seen many partner highlights which will pave the way for a successful and collaborative 2023.

supporting our charity heroes

Throughout the year, Onnec staff have taken part in different opportunities to raise money for some amazing charities. During April members of our team took part in the Walk All Over Cancer Month and walked 10,000 steps every day. The challenge was a wonderful way to get colleagues more active, improve fitness and wellbeing, and raise money for charity. Other events included walking for Alzheimer’s, donating Lego to local youth centres in Sweden, and even a fundraising hair cut – with one of our Onnec iQ software engineers, Michael Abraham, cutting off his long locks for charity and raising £1,600 for Cancer Research UK.

returning to in-person events

After almost 2 years of virtual industry events, 2022 saw many in person events restart. We enjoyed the return of our customer golf day, an event which we have been running across the UK and Ireland for several years. As well as exhibiting at the Smart Buildings Show in London where the Onnec iQ team demonstrated our Smart Buildings Solutions, and Technical Director John Dente explained our Onnec iQ overcomes the challenges of making legacy, as well as new build, real estate smart.

our inclusion and diversity journey continued

Since establishing our D&I committee in 2020 we have significantly increased our efforts to create an inclusive workplace. This year Onnec was nominated for 3 awards at the 2022 FREDIE Awards: Most Improved Organisation, Diversity Steering Group, and Chief Executive of the year, and was ranked within the Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces.

Throughout the year Onnec’s D&I committee provided guidance around multiple awareness weeks, to provide information and advice in conjunction with respective charities. From our Irish team supporting Construction Industry Federation (CIF) Safety Week with a range of toolbox talks, webinars, and on-site events. To celebrating International Women’s Day and getting involved in their #BreakTheBias campaign, with a week of webinars and Day in the Life videos shared by the Onnec women.

2022 was one of sustained growth and 2023 looks to be even better. We couldn’t have achieved this without our wonderful global customers and partners. Thank you and we wish you a safe and fun festive period.
